OMEYOCAN Craft Beer – Silver National Addy Winner
OMEYOCAN is the highest level of heaven where Ometoetl – the God of duality resides. The God created four children; Quetxacoatl, Xipe Totec, Huitzilopochtli, and Tezcatlipoca. These four gods are considered the main creation gods of the pantheon. They helped create the sun, the moon, stars, rivers, mountains, and humans.
OMEYOCAN celebrates the Aztec Mythology by depicting the Gods as fierce and powerful beings that were worshipped and loved by the Aztec people. Their devotions to the gods were sometimes rewarded with gifts of fire, intelligence, maize, and more. I show my appreciation to them by celebrating them and offering them my own gift.
QUETZACOATL
QUETZACALCOATL is the God of knowledge and wind and embodies the essence of a Wit style beer. The knowledge it took for trappist monks to create beers is nothing short of a gift. Wit–style beers are more difficult to make than most kinds of beer, and they tend to be on the lighter side as far as flavor profile.
HUITZILOPOCHTLI
HUITZILOPOCHTLI was the Patron God of the Aztecs. HUITZILOPOCHTLI’s importance is still celebrated in the Mexican flag by being depicted as an a golden eagle engrossing a snake. HUITZILOPOCHTLI is the embodiment of war, and a symbol for power and dominance. His strength inspired the high ABV of an Imperial IPA.
XIPE TOTEC
XIPE TOTEC has been portrayed as a face of horror and disease. His depictions feature blood, maggots, and decay. A Wild Red Ale, is as red as blood, and as sour as him.
TEZCATLIPOCA
TEZCATLIPOCA is the embodiment of change through conflict and is known as the ‘Smoking Mirror.’ TEZCATLIPOCA hides in the night and can see anywhere and everyone through his dark Stout–like obsidian.
